This artwork is the first work of the series: “Favole della buonanotte raccontate a mio padre (Bedtime stories told to my father)”. This artwork takes inspiration from my father’s personal story. He was abandoned and spent some times in an orphanage when he was an infant. Some months later he was adopted by a good family, but he never wanted to deal with his heartbreaking past, and so this influenced his adult life and especially his role as a father. In fact, the inflicted abandonment turned into an inflicted abandonment of his daughters.
This series of artwork wants to tell the true story of my father's biological parents, but these are totally made up by me as bedtime stories: they want to provide answers to the questions that my father probably asked himself all his life.
In particular, this artwork shows how and where my father’s conception happened: in an old truck garage behind a drive-in. The fable talks about my father’s parents’ first date, stolen kisses, old films and adolescent stereotypes.
